BEST TIME TO VISIT

Singapore is a tropical country with a relatively constant climate throughout the year. However, many visitors consider late February to early April the best time to travel to Singapore.

The weather is usually dry, and the crowds are manageable around this time of year. However, keep in mind that this is also Singapore’s peak season, so prices for flights and accommodation may be higher than usual during this time.

Singapore hosts various festivals and events throughout the year, including the Chinese New Year in January or February, the Singapore Food Festival in July, and the Singapore Grand Prix Formula One race in September.

If you happen to be visiting in September, check out the spectacular display of lanterns at the Jurong Lake Gardens.

This is the Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as The Lantern Festival, and one of Singapore’s most popular festivals. It usually falls on the 15th day of the eighth lunar month.

This beautiful festival celebrates the legend of Chang Er, a lady believed to have floated to the moon after she swallowed the elixir of eternal life and is now a moon goddess.

In the following weeks leading up to the Mid-Autumn Festival, night markets often sell mooncakes (a traditional mid-autumn snack), lanterns, and other festive goods.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Currency

The Singaporean dollar is the official currency used on the island of Singapore (SGD).

Language

The national language of Singapore is Malay. However, English is the most widely spoken, followed by Tamil, Mandarin, and Malay.

Seasons

Singapore doesn’t have your typical four seasons in a year. It has two major distinct seasons: wet and dry. Visitors can expect a normal to dry season between December and May and a rainy season from June to November, with November being its coolest and wettest month.

Transport

Singapore is a highly developed city-state with a well-connected and efficient transportation system to get you around the city without much fuss.

Singapore has one of the world’s best and most affordable public transport systems. (MRT) The Mass Rapid Transit is clean, reliable, and super affordable.

Fares are based on the distance traveled and can be paid using an EZ-Link card or a Singapore Tourist Pass.

If you plan to explore a lot of the city and its surrounding suburbs, The Singapore Tourist Pass may be your best option.

Grab, a ride-hailing app system similar to Uber, is another option for getting around. The fares on here are fixed and can be paid through the app.

BUDGET TIPS

Singapore might be ranked as one of the most expensive cities in the world. That said, don’t let this hold you back from visiting one of the most beautiful countries in Southeast Asia.

Average hotel budget 160-250 SGD. Note: This is a suggested budget. You can always lower this number if you plan to stay in a mid-range hotel. Budget hotel prices typically range from 30 – 40 SGD. However, if you stay in fancier accommodation or eat out more often, expect this to be higher.
